Filming in Poole - The First Step!

Going somewhere for the first time is daunting - so to reach out to Dorset's LGBT youth, we're making a series of videos of our young people talking about their first experiences of Space.

We'll be touring each group, starting with Poole and ending with Weymouth. Previews of our time in Poole to be released later this week, 'til then - watch this space!

We recieve support from South West Trains

After a year of many progressive achievements, Space Youth Project is very happy to receive support from South West Trains and Stagecoach Group. Allowing us to continue our vital work in the young LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community in Dorset.

South West Trains will be supporting us over the next few months by giving our staff and members free travel across their network in Dorset, this enables us to save money and re-invest funds in to helping more young people who need our help and more importantly, getting us there.

We'd like to say a big thank you to the team at Stagecoach. We'll also be offering a chance to win a 1st class trip to London in the coming weeks. Follow us on Twitter (@spacedorset) to be in with a chance of winning.

Space Does Bournemouth Pride

We had an amazing time at Bournemouth Pride a couple of weeks ago, where people turned out in record numbers. Pride is very special time for us, especially for our new members who have never been before, to be celebrated as part of our community and the wider. Sarah, our Project coordinator explains why this is important.

Visiting Blandford School

On 29th June, Space visited Bradford school to give a few assemblies on the effects of bullying towards LGBT+ youth. Each of the four assemblies went well thanks to Sarah, Kennedy, Alfie and our two drivers - Michael and Peter! Next on the list is Parkstone Grammer - can't wait!

Space Meets Prince William!

On May 12th, our Chief Executive Officer, Helen Walsh, and Campaigner, Mena Houghton, was given the amazing opportunity to meet Prince William. Together with a few others people from all walks of life came together to talk about their experiences being LGBT+ growing up. Many spoke of experiences with bullying and prejudice. “It’s been a huge eyeopener for me, just hearing all your stories… Nobody should have to go through what you’ve all been through.” Through groups like Space Youth Project young people throughout Dorset can find the support needed to help them grow as individuals. “…support that some people round this table might not have had.”

Last week Space was visited by members of the MSC Bournemouth. After thirty years of meeting, the organisation was discontinued in December 2015, and kindly donated the balance of its accounts to Space Youth Project, presenting us with a donation of roughly £120. Below is a picture of MSC members Dave, John and Mike, joined by Space members Steve, Jason, Jesse and CEO Helen Walsh
